At the completion of this conference, the participants will be able to:
• Identify a variety of injury and trauma common among children and teens.
• Recognize the importance of appropriate nursing interventions for various injury/trauma to prevent further injury and/or complications.
• Outline the role of the nurse in trauma in the school setting in collaboration with the paramedics or EMS personnel.
• Identify appropriate legislation concerning managing trauma.
• Identify the various theatrical educational programs offered by Kaiser Permanente (KP) in the Southern California Region.
• Identify appropriate KP programs that can be offered to students based on their particular grade levels in the school setting.
• Discuss legislation issues being followed up by CSNO/NASN affecting the practice of school nurses in general.
• Indicate ways to assist our professional organizations in passing legislations that will positively impact school nurses.
